The territories of the south of Ukraine became the main base for conducting the war. Troops and supply trains went from the mainland to the theater of military operations. In many settlements of the Kherson region, military hospitals operated, and some of the wounded were accommodated in private homes of Ukrainians. Thousands of refugees from Crimea were evacuated to mainland Ukraine. Most of the soldiers and sailors were Ukrainians. This war connected Ukraine and Crimea like never before.
