BEREZHNYI Ivan Mykhailovych

Born in 1924 in the village of Kremenchuk, now in the North Kazakhstan Oblast (Kazakhstan). Since childhood, he lived in the village of Novovorontsovka, now in the Kherson Oblast.

Incomplete secondary education. In the Soviet Army since August 1942. He graduated from junior lieutenant courses in 1943 and was sent to the front. The commander of a machine gun platoon of the 261st Guard Rifle Regiment (87th Guard Rifle Division, 2nd Guard Army, 4th Ukrainian Front) Junior Lieutenant Berezhnyi distinguished himself in April 1944 during the breakthrough of the enemy's defense on the Perekop Isthmus in Crimea. The platoon covered the flank of the advancing battalion with fire. When the machine gunners of the platoon died during the repulse of a counterattack, he himself lay down behind the machine gun and continued to fire. He died in battle on April 10, 1944.

The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on March 24, 1945, posthumously. Awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal. Buried in the village of Suvorove, Krasnoperekopsk district, AR of Crimea. A memorial plaque was installed on the building of Vocational School No. 1 in Kherson (now the building of the Professional Shipbuilding Lyceum).

VYSOVIN Kostiantyn Havrylovych

Born in 1918 in the village of Prohnoii, now Heroiske of the Hola Prystan district, Kherson Oblast. Ukrainian. Primary education.

In the Soviet Army since 1941. From the same year at the front. Scout of the 70th Guard Rifle Regiment (24th Guard Rifle Division, 2nd Guard Army, 4th Ukrainian Front) Guards Private Vysovin on May 9, 1944, as part of a group of scouts in a boat under enemy fire crossed the Severnaya Bay in Sevastopol, participated in the capture of the bridgehead and repelling enemy attacks. The decisive actions of the scouts helped the units of the regiment to successfully cross the bay. He died in this battle. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on March 24, 1945, posthumously. Awarded the Order of Lenin, Order of Glory 3rd Class, and a medal. Buried in the village of Belbek, now part of the Sevastopol City Council area. The school in the village of Heroiske is named after him.

HRYDASOV Dmytro Tykhonovych

Born on February 23, 1925, in the village of Rubanivka, now of the Velyka Lepetykha district, Kherson Oblast. Russian.

After graduating from incomplete secondary school, he worked on a collective farm. In the Soviet Army since 1943. At the front in the war since October 1943. On April 8, 1944, during the breakthrough of the strongly fortified enemy defense in the area of the settlement of Karanky (Dzhankoy district, Crimean Oblast), machine gunner of the 846th Rifle Regiment (267th Rifle Division, 51st Army, 4th Ukrainian Front) Private Hrydasov destroyed 9 enemy firing points and a heavy machine gun in a pillbox. In the battles of April 13 and 14, 1944, participating in repelling 5 enemy counterattacks in the settlement of Zuya (now an urban-type settlement in Bilohirsk district, AR of Crimea), he destroyed many Nazis with accurate fire.

Although wounded, he remained in the ranks. Died on January 16, 1945. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on March 24, 1945. Awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal. Buried in the village of Mokrance (Kosice Region, Slovakia). A bust of the Hero was installed in his native village.

ZIUZ Ivan Ivanovych

Born in 1925 in the village of Liubymivka, Kakhovka district, Kherson Oblast. Ukrainian. Graduated from primary school.

In the active army since September 1943. Machine gunner of the 665th Rifle Regiment (216th Rifle Division, 51st Army, 4th Ukrainian Front) Private Ziuz on November 7, 1943, as part of the forward detachment, participated in the liberation of the village of Urzhyn (now the village of Smushkyne, Krasnoperekopsk district, AR of Crimea) on the shore of the Syvash Gulf. On March 22, 1944, as part of an assault group, he performed a combat mission in the enemy's location. Covering the retreat of his comrades, he fought to the last bullet. With the last grenade, he blew up himself and the surrounding enemies. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on May 16, 1944, posthumously. Awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class, and medals. Buried in the village of Krasnoarmiiske, Krasnoperekopsk district, AR of Crimea.

SOTSENKO Oleksandr Mykytovych

Born on July 13, 1924, in the village of Chalbasy, now Vynohradove of the Oleshky district, Kherson Oblast. Ukrainian. Incomplete secondary education.

In the active army since December 1943. Sapper of the 70th Guard Rifle Regiment (24th Guard Rifle Division, 2nd Guard Army, 4th Ukrainian Front) Guards Private Sotsenko on the morning of May 9, 1944, with a group of soldiers crossed the Severnaya Bay in Sevastopol. Repelling enemy counterattacks, the group advanced into the city. Significant losses in manpower were inflicted on the enemy. He died in this battle. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on March 24, 1945, posthumously. Awarded the Order of Lenin. Buried in Sevastopol. A school and a street in his native village are named after Sotsenko.

KOROLIUK Ivan Petrovych

Born in 1895 in the village of Stara Zburivka, now of the Hola Prystan district, Kherson Oblast. Ukrainian. Primary education.

Worked on a collective farm. In the Soviet Army since November 1943. Sniper of the 262nd Guard Rifle Regiment (87th Guard Rifle Division, 2nd Guard Army, 4th Ukrainian Front) Guards Private Koroliuk, during the breakthrough of enemy fortifications on the Perekop Isthmus in the area of the village of Armyansk (now a city in the AR of Crimea) on April 9, 1944, replaced the disabled squad leader, led the soldiers in the attack, and completed the task. On April 10, 1944, at a critical moment of the battle, he led his comrades in the attack, suppressed an enemy machine gun, and fought bravely in hand-to-hand combat. In the battle of April 11, 1944, he replaced the disabled machine gunner. Died on May 9, 1944. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on March 24, 1945. Awarded the Order of Lenin. Buried in the village of Fruktove, now part of the Sevastopol City Council area.
