Crimean Titan

The history of the infamous Ukrainian Chemical Products plant — an enterprise for the production of titanium products.

On the territory of the Crimean Peninsula is located the infamous Ukrainian Chemical Products plant (formerly: Crimean Titan) — an enterprise for the production of titanium products, the capacities of which are located in the city of Armyansk.

The decision to start the construction of a chemical plant in northern Crimea was made by the Soviet government in 1960, due to an acute shortage in the USSR of titanium dioxide, which was necessary for many sectors of the country's national economy.

From January 1, 1962, by decision of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, the construction was transferred to the Council of National Economy of the Crimean Economic Administrative Region, and the plant received a new name — the Crimean Plant of Pigment Titanium Dioxide (KZPDT).

On December 29, 1969, the sulfuric acid production workshop was commissioned, the first product was obtained, and this date entered history as the birthday of "TITAN". The enterprise is located in the northern part of the peninsula on the Perekop Isthmus on the coast of the Syvash, covering an area of 4785 hectares. The plant was connected to the mainland by a railway link to the Vadym station of the Odessa Railway, located in the Kherson region.

The state archive of the region preserves documents containing information about the progress of construction of this chemical industry giant.

Thus, in August 1964, by order of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR, 9.4 hectares of land from the lands belonging to the "Chervonyi Chaban" pedigree sheep-breeding state farm-factory of the Chaplynka (now Kalanchak) district of the Kherson region was allocated to the Black Sea Economic Council for the construction of access roads and railways to the Crimean Plant of Pigment Titanium Dioxide.

A year later, in December 1965, 529.1 hectares were transferred from the lands of the "Chervonyi Chaban" state farm for the construction of water supply facilities for the Crimean Plant of Pigment Titanium Dioxide. Moreover, the land was transferred with all the premises and structures located on it.

These documents testify to a very close economic connection between the Kherson region and Crimea.
